Frequently Asked Questions - eBook Questions

FAQ - eBook Questions

What is an eBook?

An eBook is an electronic version of a book. You don't need an expensive piece of hardware to read eBooks. eBooks can be read on home computers, laptop computers, and even handheld devices, as well as specialized eBook readers.

What's the difference between print-on-demand books and eBooks?

With POD books, the electronic files containing the book and the cover are sent to the printer every time your book is ordered. The printer then uses these files to print your book and send it to the customer.

eBooks are similar in that the "book" is based on an electronic file. The eBook file contains both the book and the cover image, and the file is delivered directly to the customer. There are some differences between POD and eBook formatting that are necessary to facilitate reading the content. For instance, the back cover and spine are not included in an eBook.

What eBook formats does Fultus offer?

Several programs allow people to read eBooks. Fultus offers eBooks in the most popular formats, including Microsoft eBook (for Microsoft eBook Reader), Adobe PDF (for Adobe Acrobat Reader), and Compiled HTML (chm) Help (upon customer request). These formats cover almost 100% of the eBook market. Each reader is unique, however, and can read only files meant for that reader. So, for example, if you have Microsoft Reader, you cannot read Adobe PDF files, intended for reading with Adobe Acrobat Reader, and vice versa.

How will my eBooks be protected from illegal copying?

Typically, eBooks sold through primary book distributors ( and , etc.) are protected with Digital Rights Management (DRM) software. DRM protects eBooks from being copied and distributed for free by making an eBook readable only on the computer to which it is downloaded. As a result, copies of the eBook file cannot be made, and the file cannot be read if it is moved to another computer.

Fultus considers this limitation very undesirable for most customers and authors. So eBooks sold through the Fultus are not protected with DRM software. Instead, Fultus uses innovative Digital Signature Protection (based on Adobe Acrobat technology) that allows ONLY the legal customer to read the eBook-but on any computer the customer chooses. In other words, customers are not limited to reading their eBooks only on the computer to which they are downloaded.

Completely unhackable, Digital Signature Protection prevents customers from unlawfully distributing their purchased eBooks. Customers will not be able to print, copy, or modify this book. Every eBook purchased will include a cover page that contains specific customer information. Only Fultus uses this cutting - edge technology.

Do I require special eBook Reader software?

Yes. And both Microsoft and Adobe eBook Readers are available for free download. Simply download and install the Reader software on your computer. Download the free Microsoft eBook Reader at Microsoft and the Adobe Acrobat Reader at Adobe .

How much will it cost to have my book made into an eBook?

Please see our page for a complete listing of all publishing program fees.

How much will my eBook sell for?

As the author, you have the right to price your eBook. Fultus will provide you with a minimum pricing (please see our ). However, you may choose to price your work higher than the Fultus estimate.

Where will my eBook be sold?

Your eBook will be available through the Fultus as soon as the eBook production process is complete. You can also choose to have Fultus distribute your eBook through , , and other appropriate Web sites.

What is the royalty on the sale of an eBook?

Does Fultus have exclusive or non-exclusive rights to publish my eBook?

Our grants Fultus non-exclusive rights to publish your eBook.

How does Fultus convert my manuscript into an eBook?

We use our proprietary software to convert content into any output format on demand. We run new manuscripts (or production files of completed books) through a process that digitizes the format so that we can create "format-neutral" content which is stored in a database until a customer orders it.

Can I proof my eBook before it's published?

Yes. We'll send you a review copy by email.

Will I receive a free author copy of the eBook?

Yes. You'll receive two free author copies (in Microsoft eBook Reader and Adobe PDF formats). When we've completed production of your eBook, we'll send you an email containing a link to where you can download author copies.

How can a customer purchase a copy of an eBook?

Customers can order eBook versions of our titles in the Fultus . When they search for the title, they'll obtain a listing of the formats available for the book (eg., eBook for Adobe Acrobat Reader, eBook for Microsoft eBook Reader, etc.). Each eBook version will have its own ISBN number, to identify the product. Customers indicate their purchase and then proceed to the checkout.

I didn't find the answer to my question. Who can I ask?
